Ralf Herold has extensive experience in various scientific and regulatory roles. Ralf started their career at Freie Universität Berlin as a researcher in a basic science laboratory. Ralf then worked as a pediatrician at Charite, where they specialized in intensive care, neonatal care, outpatient clinics, and pediatric oncology. Ralf later joined the Competence Network Pediatric Oncology and Hematology as a scientific coordinator and executive manager, where they led clinical research assistants, managed projects, and oversaw the informatics infrastructure. In 2007, Ralf joined the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a senior scientific officer, serving as a coordinator for pediatric medicine development and evaluation projects, contact point for pediatric oncology, and providing scientific support to various working parties. Ralf then moved to Bayer as a pediatric development leader in regulatory policy and intelligence. Ralf rejoined EMA in 2018, first as a scientific officer in the Office of Oncology, Hematology, and Diagnostics, and currently as the head of the workstream Regulatory Science and Academia on an interim basis. Ralf Herold obtained their Approbation as a registered physician from the Senatsverwaltung für Gesundheit des Landes Berlin in 1995. Ralf later attended Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 1991 to 1994, earning a Dr. med. degree in Medicine. In 1997, they obtained their PhD Dissertation Thesis from Humboldt University of Berlin. Ralf Herold has also pursued additional certifications in various fields, including medical quality management, pediatric medicine, and small clinical trials, among others.
