David Emerson

Principal Bioprocess Engineer at Evelo Biosciences

David Emerson has an extensive work experience spanning multiple industries. Currently, they hold the position of Principal Bioprocess Engineer at Evelo Biosciences since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Scientist & Bioprocess Development Engineer at the same company from July 2020 to January 2023. Additionally, from August 2018 to July 2020, David worked as a Fermentation Process Engineer at Evelo Biosciences. Before joining Evelo Biosciences, they were a Chemical Engineering Ph.D Candidate at Prof. Gr Stephanopoulos Lab, MIT from September 2012 to August 2018. Furthermore, David has also worked as an Engineering Consultant at Cabot Corporation from April 2014 to May 2014 and at SGC Energia from February 2014 to March 2014. David gained valuable research experience as an Undergraduate Researcher at Prof. Salis Lab, Penn State University, where they worked on various projects related to enzyme optimization and plasmid library creation from January 2011 to August 2012. Additionally, they also served as a College Intern at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the summers of 2009 and 2010. Prior to pursuing their career in engineering, David worked as a Lifeguard at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts - The Hershey Lodge in the summer of 2008 and as a Camp Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation from 2002 to 2007.

David Emerson completed their education with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemical Engineering (Bioprocess and Biomolecular Engineering) from Penn State University in the years 2008 to 2012. David then pursued higher education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering Practice (M.S.CEP) between 2012 and 2014. Following this, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Engineering from the same institution, which spanned from 2012 to 2017.
