Laura Jackson

Senior Scientist at Evelo Biosciences

Laura Jackson, PhD, has a diverse background in scientific research. Laura is currently working at Evelo Biosciences as a Senior Scientist since July 2022, after joining as a Scientist in May 2021. Prior to that, they were a PhD candidate in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Washington from September 2016 to May 2021. During their time there, they made significant contributions to the field by discovering bacterial immune modulators associated with gastric cancer development in vivo, as well as identifying bacterial engagement with host receptors and metaplastic gastric glands in vitro. Laura utilized various techniques such as immunohistochemistry, quantitative imaging, and immune assays for their research. Before pursuing their PhD, they gained research experience as a Research Associate at Yale University School of Medicine from July 2014 to September 2016. As an undergraduate, they worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Connecticut from July 2013 to May 2014. Their honors thesis focused on potential roles for methlytransferases and restriction modification systems in archaea, with a specific research project dedicated to characterizing a putative methyltransferase Haloferax volcanii using PacBio SMRT sequencing. Overall, Laura's work experience highlights their expertise in molecular and cellular biology, immunohistochemistry, and quantitative imaging.

Laura Jackson, PhD, completed their education in the field of biology. Laura obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology from UNSW. Later, they pursued further studies at the University of Connecticut, where they earned their Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. Continuing their academic pursuits, Laura enrolled at the University of Washington, where they recently completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology.
