Denise Buffington

Denise Buffington, JD, MBA, currently serves as the Director of Federal Regulatory Affairs at Evergy, Inc. since June 2018, following the merger that formed the company from Westar Energy and Kansas City Power & Light. Prior to this role, Denise held positions at KCP&L where responsibilities included overseeing federal regulatory affairs and corporate counsel, shaping energy policy and regulatory compliance involving key agencies such as the FERC and state commissions. Denise began their legal career at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP, providing legal representation for electric utilities in regulatory and litigation matters. Educational qualifications include a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law, an MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
