Joan Blacher is an experienced Executive Creative Director at Evil Empire since January 2019, overseeing early concepts and pre-production as well as post-launch support for the Dead Cells IP, including high-level marketing strategy and creative team leadership. Prior to this role, Joan served as Marketing Manager at INDIECATAPULT from January 2017 to January 2019, where responsibilities included post-launch marketing, player-developer communication, and leading streaming campaigns for Dead Cells. Earlier experience includes Community Manager at INDIECATAPULT, where Joan prepared communication assets and managed community engagement for the game's launch, and Stage Chargé de communication at KURB studio, responsible for a successful Kickstarter campaign for Dungeon of Zaar. Joan's background also includes customer service roles at Seis Manos and Lovely Center. Joan holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication from Sciences Po Lyon and completed an exchange program in Communication at Universidad del Rosario.

We’re an independent game studio focused on the creation of compelling, sustainable and creative original IP. Founded in 2019, we’ve successfully built a financially sustainable team of professional game developers by focusing on our key strategy of reducing financial risk for the company while building capacity for creative risk taking. Translation, continue Dead Cells live-ops on behalf of Motion Twin, use our rev-share on that game to finance our own productions. Next is the obvious but oft overlooked statement that teams build games and that teams are made up of people. Everything we do is driven by the question, how will this make our teams better? We strive for excellence and want to work with creative people, but we’re also laser focused on making a change in the culture of the games industry at large, notably through our zero crunch policy. At the end of the day, we’re a studio of people passionate about making games and making a sustainable career out of it, rather than betting the farm on a passion project that will end up killing us.
