Athena Prado Higgins has a long and varied work experience, beginning in 1991 when they worked as an Office Assistant for San Diego Court Reporting Services. Athena then worked as a Resident Hall Advisor for San Diego State University in 1994, where they were responsible for teaching and equipping students with information about university resources and helping them hone strategies such as coping skills, time management, study skills and how to adapt to college life. In the same year, they worked as an English Teacher for the San Diego Unified School District, where they piloted, developed, designed and wrote curriculum for a Humanities based program for 70 students. In 1997, they became the Assistant Director for Street Outreach Services, followed by a Social Worker role at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation in 2000. In 2001, they began their role as Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Instruction at Olympic College, followed by roles as Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Student Services and Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Equity & Inclusion in 2014. In 2015, they became Partner and Co-founder of Elixir Fixer, a division of Ardinger Designs, LLC, where they handled the administrative tasks for the company and worked towards both regional and national distribution of the product. In 2019, they took on the role of Executive Assistant to the CEO/Program Associate at Citizen University. Currently, they are the Executive Assistant To Chief Executive Officer at Evrnu® SPC.

Athena Prado Higgins began their educational journey at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace (High School) in San Diego, CA. Athena then attended the American University of Paris, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature in 1988. Following this, they completed a DEUG (Degrée étude université générale) in French Language, Literature and Civilization from the Universite de la Sorbonne - Paris IV in 1989. In 1989-1990, they attended the Universite de St. Denis-Vincennes for Cinematography and Audiovisual Art. Finally, in 1993-1995, they earned a Professional Clear Teaching Credential in English from the University of San Diego.
