W. Paul Bowers

Mr. Bowers has over 40 years of experience in the utilities industry as well as broad financial knowledge and business experience. His background serving as both a CEO and a CFO gives him a unique perspective on long-term strategy, corporate development, decisive leadership, and risk management.

Paul Bowers served as the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, from 2011 to 2021. He also served as President of Georgia Power from 2011 to 2020. Prior to his most recent position, he was Chief Financial Officer of Southern Company, where he was rated by Institutional Investors magazine as one of the industry’s “Top Three CFOs in America.” Paul joined Southern Company in 1979 and held executive leadership positions at multiple subsidiaries.

Paul currently serves on the board of AFLAC (insurance company) as the lead non-management director. He also serves on the boards of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Brand Safeway (private construction and civil engineering firm), and as curator for the Georgia Historical Society. Paul is a past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Energy Policy Council, the Nuclear Electric Insurance Ltd. (past chairman) and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
