Jacob West

Thermal Sciences Associate at Exponent

Jacob West began their career as a Project Nexus Intern at Amor Ministries in 2008, where they supervised volunteer groups in constructing homes and acted as a liaison between the organization and the volunteers. In 2009, they worked as a Student Researcher at the University of Minnesota Solar Energy Laboratory, designing and conducting experiments to characterize zinc evaporation rates.

From 2010 to 2011, Jacob served as a Natural Building Intern at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, where they worked on finishing straw-bale walls, installing a radiant heating system, and performing electrical wiring tasks. Later, in 2011, they took on the role of an Associate Design Engineer at Peterbilt Motors Company, where they developed engineering changes for urea hose suppliers and managed the 2013 Emissions Program documentation system. In 2013, they were promoted to a Design Engineer at Peterbilt, responsible for managing design changes to diesel emissions systems and resolving production issues.

In 2016, Jacob joined Stanford University as a Graduate Research Assistant, where they worked on various research projects while pursuing their PhD in Thermal Sciences. During this time, they also served as a Thermodynamics Course Assistant at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. In 2019, Jacob worked as a Summer Scholar at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where they reconfigured existing software libraries for multiphase flow simulations, made algorithmic improvements, and analyzed numerical errors associated with new methods for evaluating Heaviside integrals.

Most recently, in 2023, Jacob started working as a Thermal Sciences Associate at Exponent.

Jacob West has a strong educational background in Mechanical Engineering. Jacob received their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, where they attended from 2007 to 2011. After completing their bachelor's degree, in May 2011, they obtained the certification of Engineer in Training from NCEES.

Continuing their education, Jacob went on to pursue a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, which they completed between 2016 and 2018.

Currently, Jacob is further advancing their knowledge and expertise in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, where they are working towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Jacob began their doctoral studies in 2018 and is expected to complete them by 2023.

Overall, Jacob West's educational history showcases their dedication and focus on Mechanical Engineering, as evidenced by their degrees from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering and Stanford University, as well as their pursuit of a PhD.
