Joseph Rakow

Group Vice President And Principal Engineer at Exponent

Joseph Rakow has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Joseph started their career at Sandia National Laboratories as an Engineering Sciences Summer Intern, where they conducted research in a high-security environment as part of a program aimed at recruiting top engineering graduate students.

Following their internship, Joseph joined the University of Michigan as a Doctoral Researcher. During their time there, they focused on the thermomechanical response of metal foam sandwich panels in structural thermal protection systems for hypersonic vehicles. Joseph'sdoctoral thesis involved conceptualizing, building, and analyzing a new load-bearing thermal protection system panel. Joseph utilized experimental, theoretical, and analytical techniques to develop the system.

After completing their doctorate, Joseph transitioned to Exponent, where they have held multiple roles over the years. Joseph began as an Engineer and progressively advanced to Senior Engineer, Managing Engineer, Senior Managing Engineer, and Principal Engineer. Joseph then served as Practice Director and Principal Engineer, Corporate Vice President, Practice Director, and Principal Engineer, and is currently the Group Vice President and Principal Engineer.

Joseph Rakow's extensive work experience showcases their expertise in engineering, research, and leadership roles.

Joseph Rakow completed their education with a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, where they studied from 1999 to 2004. Prior to that, they obtained a B.S. in Physics from the University of California, Davis, where they attended from 1994 to 1999. Furthermore, they completed their high school education at Loyola High School of Los Angeles between 1990 and 1994, although no specific degree or field of study is mentioned for this period.
