Nasim Monfared

Nasim Monfared has extensive experience in the field of genetics and genomics, with a focus on interpretation and classification of genetic variants. They have worked as a Consultant Genomic Scientist at Fabric Genomics since January 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Cancer Genetic Counselor at BC Cancer Agency from November 2022 to April 2023. From September 2020 to October 2022, Nasim worked as a Scientist - Target Discovery at Deep Genomics. They also held the position of Clinical Genomic Scientist at Invitae from January 2018 to April 2020, where they were responsible for variant interpretation, correlation of genes/variants with patient phenotypes, literature review, and report writing for pediatric and cancer operations. Before that, Nasim held various roles at Flow Health/Signal Genomics, Centre for Genetic Medicine - The Hospital for Sick Children, Genome Diagnostics Laboratory - The Hospital for Sick Children, and Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where they were involved in genetic counseling, research, and clinical protocols development. They started their career as a Research Assistant at the Canadian Collaborative Project on Genetic Susceptibility to Multiple Sclerosis, where they conducted interviews with MS patients and contributed to the organization of educational conferences.

Nasim Monfared has a diverse education history. In 2004, they enrolled at The University of British Columbia and completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Genetics and Cell Biology in 2007. Nasim then pursued further education in the field and obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Genetic Counselling from the same institution between 2009 and 2011.

In 2014, Nasim obtained certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), further validating their expertise in the field. Building upon their existing qualifications, they completed a Product Management Certificate program at BrainStation in 2023, focusing on enhancing their knowledge and skills in product management.
