Monica Chen has a diverse work experience in the nonprofit and education sectors. Monica worked as the Executive Director at New Roots Institute, where they focused on empowering the next generation to end factory farming through education and leadership programs. Prior to that, they served as the National Programs Director and Bay Area Director at New Roots Institute. Monica also worked as the Green Monday US Coordinator at Green Monday, promoting sustainable food choices. Additionally, they gained experience as an Environmental Science Educator and Site Manager at NatureBridge, as well as a Teacher through Teach For America.

Monica Chen holds a Bachelor's degree in American Studies with a focus on Environmental Education and Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Monica also has a Master's degree from The University of New Mexico. Prior to that, they attended Homestead High School, San Francisco Waldorf High School, and The Girls Middle School. Additionally, Monica has obtained a California Teaching Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
