Lesley Kay is a distinguished medical professional currently serving as the National Clinical Director for Musculoskeletal Conditions at NHS England since April 2024. With extensive experience in various leadership roles, Lesley has been the National Clinical Lead for Rheumatology in the ‘Getting It Right First Time’ programme at NHS Improvement since November 2017, and a consultant rheumatologist at The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since October 2000, where roles also included Clinical Director for Patient Safety and Quality and Clinical Director for Musculoskeletal Services. Lesley holds a Vice-chair position at the Northern Clinical Senate Council and serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society. Additional notable roles include being a Generation Q Fellow at the Health Foundation and a Senior Fellow at the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. Academic qualifications include an Ashridge Masters in Leadership (Quality Improvement) from Hult Ashridge Executive Education, an MSc in Public Health from Newcastle University, and a BM BCh in Medicine from the University of Oxford.
