Chief Academic Officer at Fairfax County Public Schools

Sloan Presidio became the Chief Academic Officer on November 17, 2020. He oversees the Instructional Services Department, the Department of Special Services, and the Department of School Improvement and Supports.

As the Chief Academic Officer, Presidio focuses on increasing student academic achievement while continuing to expand equity in education, which means having systems in place to ensure that every student has the opportunity to realize their full potential.

Before becoming the Chief Academic Officer, Presidio had served as assistant superintendent for instructional services since 2012. Under his leadership, Instructional Services staff members supported schools and students with innovative instructional programming and personalized learning to ensure all students reached FCPS Portrait of a Graduate goals. He was responsible for helping to close the achievement gap and for integrating project-based learning and performance-based assessments into the curriculum. Most recently, his work was instrumental in developing the district’s distance learning plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to joining FCPS, Presidio served as assistant superintendent for educational programs in the Tigard-Tualatin School District in Oregon. As an educational administrator, Presidio served as an alternative school principal, high school principal, and director of educational programs, overseeing programs for English language learners, talented and gifted students, and Title I schools. His classroom teaching experiences include the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Presidio’s professional career also includes work as an attorney with Ross, Dixon, and Bell, LLP in Washington, D.C.

Presidio earned his doctorate in education from the University of Oregon, his Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law, a master’s of education from the University of Oregon, and a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of California-Los Angeles.
