Emily deRiel is an accomplished communications professional with extensive experience in global health and development. Currently serving as the Communications Manager at Fairtrade International since September 2017, Emily also works as an Independent Consultant for Global Health and Development since March 2015. Prior to this, Emily was the Global Health Programs Team Lead for Haiti and Côte d'Ivoire at I-TECH / University of Washington, where leadership included management of HIV and health workforce projects. Additional roles include Country Program Manager at Health Alliance International and Policy Associate at I-TECH, with early career experience as National Communications Director at NPower and Account Executive at The Brownstein Group. Emily holds a BA in English from Yale University, an MPH from the University of Washington, and an MPhil in English from the University of Oxford.

Fairtrade International is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization made up of member organizations around the world. It is responsible for the strategic direction of Fairtrade, setting the Fairtrade Standards and supporting producers in developing countries.Our mission is to connect disadvantaged producers and consumers, promote fairer trading conditions and empower producers to combat poverty, strengthen their position and take more control over their lives. Our vision and mission will be reflected in the values by which we work as an organization so that we ourselves set an example for the changes we seek in others. Therefore we will work collaboratively and seek to empower those who wish to be partners in our mission.
