Brad Benson

Chief Academic Officer at Fairview Health Services

Brad Benson is the Chief Academic Officer at M Health Fairview, and his research and education teams support clinical research and learners/educators/education programs within the M Health Fairview system. He is an internal medicine physician and pediatrician with a clinical focus on primary care, care of adolescent and adult childhood cancer survivors, and evidence-based medicine. Brad is a professor of internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is a graduate of the Vanderbilt University Medical School and completed his Med-Peds residency training at the University of Minnesota. He subsequently served as Residency Program Director of his former Med-Peds program from 2002-2012, and led the national Med-Peds Program Directors' Association as its president from 2008-2009. Brad served as the Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine from 2009- 2018, during which time the division grew from 25 to 60 faculty members with major expansion of the research and scholarship portfolio and the start of the Hospital Medicine Program. In addition to his clinical focus, Brad’s interests include milestone-based competency assessment across the continuum of medical education and integration of clinical research into a learning health system framework.
