Stephen Gifford has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and companies. Stephen started their career as an Economist - Executive Consultant at KPMG in 1997 and worked there until 2003. Stephen then joined Oxford Economics as a Senior Economist from 2003 to 2005. After that, they worked at Grant Thornton as the Chief Economist & Director from 2005 to 2013. Following this, they served as the Director of Economics at the Confederation of British Industry from 2013 to 2014. From 2014 to 2019, they held the position of Head of Economic Regulation at the Civil Aviation Authority. In 2019, they joined the Faraday Institution as their Chief Economist. Stephen also served as a Commissioner for the South East Wales Transport Commission from 2019 to 2021. From 2018 to 2022, they were a Commissioner for the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales. In 2020, they became a Board Member for the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre. Most recently, in 2022, they joined the Regulatory Policy Committee as a Board Member.
Stephen Gifford's education history includes a BA in Economics from the University of Liverpool, which they completed from 1988 to 1991. Stephen also pursued an MSc in Econometrics & Mathematical Economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 1992 to 1993.
