Farnsworth Art Museum
Gwendolyn L. Smith is an accomplished arts and museum professional with extensive experience in leadership, education, and curatorial roles. Currently serving as the Phyllis Wyeth Director of Learning and Engagement at Farnsworth Art Museum since July 2021, Gwendolyn L. Smith oversees all learning and community initiatives, manages departmental budgets, and develops new programs. Previous positions include Regional Site Administrator at Historic New England, Adjunct Professor of Art History at the University of New Hampshire, and Specialist in European Furniture and Decorative Arts at Skinner, Inc. Gwendolyn L. Smith has cultivated expertise in program implementation, community partnerships, and the interpretation of inclusive narratives across various historical sites and museums. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Museum Studies from Harvard University and a Bachelor's degree in Art History from Smith College, along with specialized training from the Attingham Trust and courses in nonprofit financial stewardship.

Farnsworth Art Museum
The Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America’s greatest artists. With more than 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the nation’s largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. The Museum has an extensive collection of Maine works by three generations of Wyeths—N.C., Andrew and Jamie—and in a unique partnership with the Wyeth Center for American Art and the Brandywine Museum, has access to more than 7,000 Wyeth works of art.
