Ben Fry

Ben Fry has a long career in the field of design and technology. Ben began their career in 1996 as an Intern in the Human-Computer Interaction Group at Trilogy. In 1997, they became a Visual Interface Designer at Netscape. In 2001, they co-founded the Processing project with Casey Reas and in 2012, Dan Shiffman formally joined the project and they created The Processing Foundation, a 501(c)3. In 2004, they became a Postdoctoral Associate at the Broad Institute, followed by a Visiting Lecturer at Harvard University in 2005. In 2006, they were appointed Nierenberg Chair of Design at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2007, they were a Designer/Developer at Oblong Industries Inc. and in 2008, they became the Director of the Seed Visualization Lab at Seed Media Group. Finally, in 2016, they became a Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Ben Fry obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design (major) and Computer Science (minor) from Carnegie Mellon University from 1993 to 1997. Ben then went on to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they obtained their Master's Degree from 1998 to 2000 in the Media Laboratory, Aesthetics & Computation Group. Ben then obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from 2000 to 2004 in the same field. Ben Fry's educational history began at Huron High School from 1989 to 1993.
