Bieke Machiels has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Bieke began their career in 1992 as a Senior Teacher for the Zimbabwe government with VVOB, where they worked until 1996. In 2000, they became the Director of Liga voor Mensenrechten and held the position until 2004. From 2004 to 2005, they worked as a PO OSID Zimbabwe for Vredeseilanden. In 2006, they joined FEDASIL as the Head of Unit for Policy and Research. Bieke then served as the Director Reception Centre for Asylum Seekers for a brief period in 2010. Later, they became the acting Director of Reception Network management from 2010 to 2012. In 2008, they briefly worked as an Expert for the Cabinet of the Federal Minister for Social Integration. Overall, Bieke Machiels has a strong background in leadership positions and expertise in policy and research.

Bieke Machiels pursued their education from 1986 to 1990 at Ghent University, where they attained a Master's degree in African Studies.
