John Young is an experienced maritime and transportation policy advocate, currently serving as Counsel to Federal Maritime Commission Commissioner Bentzel since May 2020. Prior to this role, John Young was the Director of Freight and Surface Transportation Policy at the American Association of Port Authorities, where significant accomplishments included securing $11 billion in freight funding within the FAST ACT. John Young has also led a successful consulting practice and held the position of Senior Associate at CJ Strategies/CJ Lake, LLC, contributing to the advancement of various client legislative agendas. Earlier in John Young's career, extensive legislative experience was gained while serving as Legislative Director in the U.S. House of Representatives, where strategic initiatives in appropriations and flood control legislation were driven to successful enactment. John Young holds a BA in English from Roanoke College and furthered education at Virginia Commonwealth University.
