Michele Broemmelsiek

Director, Global Education, Employment & Engagement, G3E at FHI 360

Michele Broemmelsiek is a senior international development professional with 25 years of field and headquarters experience, reaching more than 100 countries. As Director of Global Education, Employment and Engagement, she oversees FHI 360’s work in economic participation and financial inclusion, workforce development and green jobs, education across all levels and in emergency and crisis contexts, civil society strengthening, peacebuilding and conflict mitigation, governance, professional and academic exchanges, capacity development and social science research.

Prior to joining FHI 360, Broemmelsiek served as the Chief Program Officer at IntraHealth International, where she managed a multimillion dollar portfolio across 15 countries that focused on HIV, maternal and child health care, and family planning. She also ran a crisis management team to adapt programming during the COVID-19 pandemic and built the capacity of two local nongovernmental organizations started by IntraHealth — IntraHealth Namibia and AFYA Plus — to address community needs and lead new projects.

Broemmelsiek spent 23 years with Catholic Relief Services, including as the Vice-President of Overseas Operations. She managed technical experts, research and evaluation, and thought leadership initiatives across all sectors, including economic strengthening, education, peacebuilding and capacity strengthening. Her program leadership experience spans from a large PEPFAR initiative in 10 countries to a peacebuilding and reconciliation program in Mindanao, the Philippines, that has been running for more than 25 years.

Broemmelsiek lived and worked overseas for 13 years while serving in several positions with Catholic Relief Services — Southern Africa Regional Director, Country Director for Zambia, Assistant Country Representative for Indonesia, and Program Manager for Peace and Reconciliation in Mindanao, the Philippines. She holds a master's degree in international development from American University and a bachelor's degree in religious studies and cultural anthropology from Emory University.
