Joseph McDonnell

Director of Design at FHI Studio

Joseph McDonnell has extensive work experience in landscape architecture. Joseph started their career as a Landscape Architect at The Delta Group in 1997 and later joined Milone & MacBroom, Inc. in 2001. In 2006, they joined Richter & Cegan Inc. as an Associate Landscape Architect, where they were responsible for designing and planning a wide range of projects including streetscapes, public spaces, educational facilities, office and commercial developments, residential communities, and parks. At Richter & Cegan Inc., they became a Senior Associate Landscape Architect in 2018.

In 2021, McDonnell moved to Freeman Companies, LLC, where they served as the Manager of Landscape Architecture until 2023. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Design at FHI Studio, starting from March 2023. Throughout their career, McDonnell has demonstrated a strong focus on sustainable design and planning, blending the natural environment with project requirements to create cohesive and environmentally-friendly designs.

Joseph McDonnell earned a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from Temple University, which they attended from 1994 to 1998. Prior to that, they pursued Biomedical/Medical Engineering at The Catholic University of America from 1991 to 1993, although they did not obtain a degree in that field. In terms of additional certifications, Joseph obtained the LEED AP Building Design + Construction certification from the Green Building Certification Institute in October 2008. Joseph also holds a LICENSED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT certification from the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, although the specific details, such as the month and year obtained, were not provided.
