Damian Orizu

Damian Orizu is the current Assistant General Manager & Divisional Head of Remedial & Asset Mgt at Fidelity Bank. Damian has over 5 years of experience in the banking industry, specifically in Remedial Assets Mgt. and Special Recovery Task Force.

In their previous position at Heritage Bank Plc, Damian was instrumental in reducing the scaring NPL Ratio of 55% to 21% in 9 months and subsequently to 19%. Damian achieved this by making a total recovery of N9.6bn (NPLs & PDOs) in year 2015, which impacted heavily in both the P & L books of the bank as well as generating strong liability for bank use in the creation of new quality risk assets. This allowed the bank to declare profit by 2015-year end.

In 2016 FY, Damian achieved a total recovery of N17.55bn (NPLs & PDOs). Damian is responsible for managing the impaired assets portfolio of the Bank by restructuring, settlement or foreclosure of the non-performing loans/ projects and ensuring that the recovery plans are executed according to the strategy. This includes negotiating the financing/ restructuring terms for impaired loans, and consulting with external auditors and the legal counsel on provisioning implications for the non-performing loans in accordance with Policy guidelines.

In order to reduce the possibility of future losses, Damian identifies cross functional policy & procedures that contribute to the non-performing assets & assists their rectification in coordination with the relevant departments.

Damian Orizu has a Ph.D in Credit Risk/Financial Management from the London School of Credit Risk & Financial Mgt/International University of Panama. Damian also has a Master of Business Administration - MBA in International Finance from the University of Lagos, and a Master of Science - MS in Marketing/Marketing Management, General from the University of Lagos. Damian also has a Bachelor of Science - BS in Accounting from the University of Lagos.
