Soysal Degirmenci has a diverse work experience in the field of machine learning and data science. Soysal started their career as a Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Washington University in St. Louis from 2011 to 2016. Soysal also worked as an Instructor during this time.
Following their academic roles, Degirmenci joined ID Analytics, a LexisNexis Risk Solutions company, as a Data Scientist in April 2016. Soysal was later promoted to the role of Senior Data Scientist in June 2018, and they held this position until February 2020. During their time at ID Analytics, they developed machine learning models for credit risk assessment and designed a novel ML-based identity verification and authentication product. Soysal also led the initiative to build an internal tool for model building.
In 2020, Degirmenci joined Brain Corp as a Machine Learning Engineer. Soysal'swork primarily focused on the inventory scan project for real-time shelf inventory insights in grocery stores. Soysal worked on various aspects of machine learning, including image metadata enrichment, object detection, image processing, and supervised machine learning. Soysal also played a role in developing technical requirements for AI products.
After their time at Brain Corp, Degirmenci joined Amazon in January 2021 as a Machine Learning Scientist. Soysal was later promoted to the position of Sr. Machine Learning Scientist in October 2022. At Amazon, they served as the technical ML lead in a team under the retail division. Soysal led a cross-team project to manage fraud risk and developed a Reinforcement Learning-based approach to improve top-line performance and reduce scientist hours. Soysal also worked on prototyping and supporting the deployment of autoregressive offline simulators for risk programs.
Most recently, Degirmenci will be joining Fieldguide in July 2023 as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer. Details about their work in this role are not provided.
Soysal Degirmenci completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Middle East Technical University from 2006 to 2011. Soysal then pursued further education at Washington University in St. Louis, where they earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from 2011 to 2013. Later on, they continued their studies at the same university and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering from 2011 to 2016.
