Sylvanus Ibiang

Sylvanus Ibiang has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Starting in 2013, they worked as a Teacher/Administrative Assistant at Sparkbrain standard college, where they taught subjects, prepared lesson notes, organized Debate and Press clubs, and chaired the Disciplinary committee. In 2015, they served as a Business Development Officer at Youth Consult. From 2016 to 2020, Sylvanus worked at Royal Chosen Academy as an Academic Tutor, responsible for teaching subjects, preparing lesson notes, and overseeing examinations. During the same period, they also worked as an Examinations Invigilation Officer at British Council, administering exams and issuing results and certificates. From 2017 to 2020, Sylvanus was an Internal Control/Compliance Officer at Ekondo Microfinance Bank Ltd., where they reviewed audit reports, conducted compliance checks, and generated recommendations for remedial actions. Sylvanus then served as the Operations Manager at Ekondo Microfinance Bank for a few months in 2020, overseeing daily transactions, monitoring vault balances, and preparing reports. Later in 2020, Sylvanus worked as an ATM Custodian at Ekondo Microfinance Bank LTD, responsible for ATM monitoring and replenishment, dispute resolution, transactions sorting and posting, fund transfers, ledgers monitoring, and reconciliation. In 2021, they joined FINCA MICROFINANCE BANK as a Risk Management and Internal Control Officer, reviewing loan files for compliance, conducting compliance checks, and improving operational risk management. Currently, Sylvanus is employed at FINCA Impact Finance as the Head of Risk and Chief Compliance Officer, supporting the business in risk management strategies, enforcing risk management policies, conducting risk analysis, and making recommendations for preventive actions.

Sylvanus Ibiang completed their Master's degree in Banking and Finance at the University of Calabar from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the same university, studying from 2008 to 2013. Additionally, Sylvanus Ibiang has acquired several additional certifications, including Operational Risk Management: Frameworks and Strategies from the New York Institute of Finance in February 2023, Microfinance Certification Program (MCIB) from The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria - CIBN in July 2020, and an Introduction to Cybersecurity & Risk Management Specialization from Coursera, with no specified completion date.
