Monica Ek has worked in the field of wood chemistry and pulp technology since 1985. MONICA began their career at STFI AB in 1985, where they held the role of Research Manager from 1992-1995. In 1995, they moved to Stora Enso Research, where they held the roles of Senior Scientist and Research Manager Product Chemistry. In 1999, they joined KTH Royal Institute of Technology as Head of Division Wood Chemistry and Pulp Technology, a role in which they were responsible for developing and managing a team of 25 professors, scientists, post docs and PhD students, as well as fundrising, budget and leadership for the team. In addition, they held the roles of Professor and Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor. In 2015, they founded and became Senior Advisor and Chairman of the Board of FineCell.
Monica Ek obtained a PhD in Wood Chemistry from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 1992. From 1990 to 1991, they were a PhD student in Photoyellowing Biofibers at McGill University. MONICA also studied Organic Chemistry at Stockholm University from 1979 to 1982.
