Kaisa Pietilä is a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Washington, serving at the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance since August 2023. Kaisa has extensive experience in biodiversity policy and research, currently holding the position of Senior Research Scientist at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) while on research leave until September 2024. As a Doctoral Researcher at Tampere University, Kaisa focuses on the Convention on Biological Diversity, employing qualitative research methods. Previous roles include working as a Specialist on circular economy for biodiversity at Sitra, and as a Grantham Scholar at the University of Sheffield, where research centered on the environment/economy relationship from a biodiversity perspective. Kaisa's early career included positions at UNEP-WCMC and initiating a biodiversity project in Edinburgh. Academic qualifications span a PhD in Political Science and Government, an MPhil from the University of Sheffield, an MSc from the University of Edinburgh, and a BSc from Aberystwyth University.
