Ioanna Merkouriadi is a Senior Scientist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute since November 2019, specializing in snow and sea ice modeling. Prior to this role, Ioanna served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Norsk Polarinstitutt, focusing on the evolution, spatial distribution, and physical properties of snow on sea ice using N-ICE 2015 in-situ data, and at the University of Helsinki, working on projects related to wastewater nitrogen load reduction and the impacts of climate change on snow properties. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Helsinki and two Master’s degrees from the University of the Aegean, in Coastal Zone Management and Marine Sciences.
