Job Description:

The General Manager is a dynamic Fire and Life Safety industry professional who possesses strong people management skills, exceptional communication abilities, and financial management expertise, with experience in the fire alarm/security and/or fire sprinkler industry, as well as other fire and life safety experiences. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the territory, possess robust technical knowledge, strategic thinking capabilities, a solid work ethic, seasoned business acumen, and outstanding communication skills to motivate a team. Class C Master Electrician NICET/SET certifications are required. To excel in the General Manager role, one must communicate professionally with customers and staff, aiming for mutually beneficial outcomes. The General Manager is expected to navigate the team through challenges with a resolute and optimistic attitude, addressing issues that impede the efficient and triumphant achievement of company and territorial objectives. Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for fostering within the team a culture of professional growth, health, safety, and a commitment to customer service excellence.

Education & Certifications:

  • NICET/SET certifications in either Water Based Systems Layout and/or Fire Alarm**.**
  • Additional Inspection (Sprinkler or Fire Alarm) certifications a plus.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or Related Field.
  • Continuing education courses a plus (AFSA, NFSA, NAFED, AAFA, etc.).

Experience Required:

  • MUST have managed a branch or held an Operational Leadership position -- not open to first-time managers.
  • Must be able to provide specific and verifiable examples of branch performance improvements, including financial and cultural.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in various industry roles to fully understand branch operations, i.e. someone who progressed from installer or inspector to designer, Project Manager, Sales, and management roles.
  • Preference for those who have spent time in the local market and is familiar with local regulations, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) and those who have a strong local network.
  • Preference for candidates who have worked in both small “owner/operator” and large “corporate” settings, possessing the understanding of the intricacies of operating in both.
  • Bonus if experienced working for a Private Equity backed company and has managed the integration of new acquisitions.

  • Responsibility for supervising daily operations, including utilization (production), procurement, process optimization, quality control, and resource management.
  • Skilled in contract negotiations, comprehension of contracts, and understanding the nuances of all vantage points.
  • Clear understanding of industry Codes & Standards and various fire protection systems within the industry.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance.
  • Values and recognizes the significance of upholding a robust safety culture.
  • Problem-Solving abilities – autonomously identifying problems and issues, investigating and determining root causes, implementing solutions, remediating and reporting.
  • Ability and commitment to be consistently present and engaged, even if not physically everywhere, 'first in, last out' mindset.
  • Financial acumen and insight into branch profit and loss, and understanding the impact of decisions on financial outcomes.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Development of strategic plans to achieve FSP's goals within their market.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction as a priority, recognizing its critical impact, and value communication, exceptional service delivery, and addressing concerns promptly. Understand what makes a difference by interacting with customers and by soliciting customer feedback.
