Gert van der Merwe

Gert Van Der Merwe is an experienced health and safety professional with a strong background in various managerial roles within the construction and engineering sectors. Currently serving as the H&S Manager at Firestone Liberia since September 2023, Gert was previously the SHE Manager at Aveng Group, overseeing safety in construction projects, including civil works at the Sasol Refinery. Prior positions include SHEQ Manager at CCI Engineering & Projects and Construction Safety Specialist at Sasol, where Gert contributed to HS&E project planning in collaboration with Jacobs. Gert's career began with Bleacher International as a Construction Supervisor, overseeing crews and managing safety protocols. Gert holds a Bachelor's Degree in Quality Control and Safety Technologies from the University of South Africa and completed Grade 12 in Technical/Mechanical at High School Oosterland.
