Paul Lathrop, Ed.D., currently serves as the Principal of the Rowanty Technical Center at Prince George County Public Schools since June 2024. Lathrop has extensive experience in educational leadership, having held the position of Dean of Students at Chesterfield County Public Schools from August 2017 to June 2024, where responsibilities included supervising student behavior and collaborating with staff and parents to address attendance issues. In addition, Lathrop was a Mechatronics Instructor at Chesterfield County Public Schools, instructing students in various engineering concepts. Lathrop's background also includes membership in the District Team Advisory Committee for FIRST Chesapeake / VirginiaFIRST since June 2019 and various leadership roles at Target, showcasing skills in talent development and sales management. Lathrop's educational credentials include a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Liberty University, complemented by a Master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision and additional degrees in Retail Management and Engineering.

FIRST Chesapeake Mission: The mission of FIRST Chesapeake (dba VirginiaFIRST) is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. It is our vision to make FIRST STEM-based leadership programs a reality for every young person in the DC/ MD/ VA area. FIRST Chesapeake administers FIRST (For Inspiration of Science and Technology) programs to middle and high school students in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. There are over 6,700 students on over 300 FIRST Chesapeake teams. These teams work together to build robots and compete in local arenas each year, with the involvement of over 650 mentors and coaches.
