Dr. Cornelia Wieman (Nel)

Dr. Cornelia (Nel) Wieman has held various roles throughout their career. Dr. Cornelia (Nel) began their work experience as a Co-Director and Assistant Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, from 2004 to 2011. In 2012, they transitioned to private practice as a Psychiatrist / Consultant until 2013 when they joined CAMH as a Staff Psychiatrist. Dr. Wieman also served as the President of the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada from August 2016 to January 2023, where they focused on supporting and promoting mentorship for Indigenous physicians. Dr. Cornelia (Nel) is currently working at the First Nations Health Authority, initially as the Senior Medical Officer for Mental Health & Wellness from 2018 to 2020, then as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and now as the Acting Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Cornelia (Nel) Wieman began their education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons. Co-op) in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo, which they completed from 1983 to 1988. Dr. Cornelia (Nel) then went on to obtain a Master of Science (MSc) in Biomechanics from the same university, which they completed from 1988 to 1990.

Continuing their educational journey, Dr. Wieman enrolled at McMaster University and earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from 1990 to 1993. Subsequently, they pursued a specialty in Psychiatry, completing their training at McMaster University from 1993 to 1998, leading to their attainment of the FRCPC degree.
