First Place for Youth
Kelsey Hopson-Shiller, LCSW, currently serves as a Family Court Services Specialist at Los Angeles Superior Court since March 2017 and also works as a Program Specialist at First Place for Youth since May 2015. Previous experience includes roles as a School Social Worker and Clinical Director at Denver Public Schools from June 2013 to May 2015, and Human Animal Connection Program Coordinator at CBR YouthConnect from June 2010 to August 2013. Kelsey began a career in marine biology as an Aquaculturist at Hubbs Sea World Research Institute from August 2006 to August 2007. Kelsey earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Denver (2008-2010) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Animal Science and Management from the University of California, Davis (2002-2006).

First Place for Youth
First Place for Youth was founded in 1998 to prevent poverty and homelessness among youth who age out of foster care. The mission of First Place is to help foster youth build the skills they need to make a successful transition to self-sufficiency and responsible adulthood. First Place was the first organization dedicated exclusively to providing housing for transitioning foster youth in Northern California and has grown into the state’s largest provider for this vulnerable population. First Place utilizes a scattered-site housing program model, which puts youth in a realistic, independent setting in their local communities.
