Kathomi Gatwiri

Kathomi Gatwiri PhD is a distinguished academic and practitioner in the field of social work and mental health. Currently serving as Professor and Head of Discipline at Flinders University since July 2025, Kathomi has built a robust career in academia, previously holding positions such as Associate Professor and ARC DECRA Fellow at Southern Cross University from January 2017 to July 2025. Kathomi is also the founder and Director of Healing Together Psychotherapy, Australia's first psychotherapy practice dedicated to supporting Black individuals and people of color facing challenges related to racism and racial trauma. In addition, Kathomi has contributed as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care and has experience teaching postgraduate social work topics. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Work and Cultural Studies from Flinders University and a Master’s degree from the Cairnmillar Institute of Psychology.
