Executive Director, Development, Distributed Technologies And Mobility at Florida Power & Light

Crystal Stiles is the senior director of economic development for Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). Crystal joined FPL in 2012 and has served the company in various roles, including manager and project manager of economic development. She has a decade-long career in economic development and previously served as the co-executive director for the Business Development Board of Martin County.

Crystal leads and advances FPL’s economic development strategy statewide and establishes partnerships nationwide. The economic development team’s successes have led to FPL’s recognition five times by Site Selection magazine in its Top Utility in Economic Development category, four times as a Top Utility by Business Facilities Magazine, and one of The Best Utilities in Economic Development by Southern Business & Development magazine.

Crystal and her team enhance and support economic development efforts throughout Florida with incentive rates for growing businesses, capacity-building community programs, and resources to local and regional economic development organizations. The team supports business development projects throughout the state within Florida’s 11 targeted industry sectors. Crystal led the 2020 launch of 35 Mules: an innovation hub powered by FPL. 35 Mules provides resources and support to invited startups in order to grow Florida’s next generation of world-changing companies.

Crystal is past chair for the Florida Economic Development Council and vice-chair for the Florida delegation of the Southeast U.S./Japan Association. Appointed by Gov. Rick Scott in 2018, Crystal also serves on the board of the Aerospace Alliance, a four-state partnership that attracts aviation and aerospace investment. She also serves on the Florida Venture Forum board.

Crystal received the Eunice Sullivan Professional of the Year award at the 2019 Florida Economic Development Council’s annual conference. She was also named among Consultant Connect’s 2019 Top 50 Economic Developers in North America. In 2017, Crystal received national honors as one of Development Counsellors International’s 40 under 40 in Economic Development.

Crystal is a graduate of Leadership Florida Cornerstone Class XXXVII. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. and a Master of Business Administration with a focus in international business from Florida Atlantic University. She volunteers her time as a board member of House of Hope, a nonprofit that addresses hunger and hardship. Crystal resides in Palm City with her two teenage daughters.
