Senior Software Engineer and Engineering Manager at Focused Labs

Emily Platzer has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Emily is currently employed at Focused Labs as a Senior Software Engineer and Engineering Manager since February 2021. Prior to this, Emily worked as a Creative Technologist at Boulder Public Library from October 2019 to December 2020. Emily also held the position of Senior Software Engineer at Unsupervised from January 2019 to April 2019.

Emily's previous roles include serving as a Senior Software Engineer at ConnectedFi from September 2018 to October 2018. In this role, they were responsible for generating process plans, establishing project planning tools, organizing sprint planning, coordinating between developers, designers, and user researchers, and teaching modern agile/lean project development. Emily also facilitated employee goal planning sessions.

Before that, Emily worked at Cognizant Quick Left as a Senior Software Developer and Team Lead from August 2016 to September 2018. Emily led a distributed team of engineers and designers to create a robust application and ensured that the project was functional and ready for demo at every commit in master.

Emily's career journey began at Galvanize Inc, where they held various positions including Associate Instructor, Assistant Instructor, and Teaching Assistant from September 2014 to July 2016. Emily was responsible for organizing and directing daily class activities, creating lesson plans and curriculum, assisting students with their classwork and personal projects, and conducting assessments and grading. Emily also volunteered as an Office Hour Volunteer and Mentor for the g[3] class.

Prior to their career in software development, Emily gained experience at Fancy Tiger Crafts, where they held multiple roles including Sales, Floor Manager, Back End Manager, Instructor, and Designer. Their responsibilities included sales, customer project help, stock management, online order fulfillment, payroll management, class instruction, and designing patterns.

Emily also has experience working at Tom Brown Jr.'s Tracker School as a Student Relations representative, where they were in charge of helping the school with their new direction. Emily gathered feedback from students, updated student records, and developed a new web presence and online community for students. Additionally, Emily interned at the school, where they assisted with logistics and back-end management for running the school, including food ordering and preparation, organizing volunteers, and creating demonstrations for the class.

Lastly, Emily worked as a Site Records Assistant at Alpine Archaeological Consultants, Inc. Their role involved working with archaeologists to input site records into a database to meet a deadline.
