Aurelie Mechels is currently an FWO fellow in strategic basic research at the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) since November 2022 and has been a PhD student at VIB as part of the Laboratory of Translational Genetics VIB-KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology since September 2021, under the supervision of Prof. Diether Lambrechts and co-promotor Prof. In addition, Aurelie completed a senior internship at VIB from October 2020 to June 2021 and held a junior internship at Maastricht University focused on progressive multiple sclerosis in April 2020. Earlier experiences include a bachelor internship at UHasselt aimed at implementing a robust data processing workflow in label-free quantitative proteomics. Aurelie holds a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on Genetics and Genomics from Maastricht University and a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences from Hasselt University. Early education was completed at Heilig-Hartcollege Lanaken, graduating with a high school diploma in Science and Mathematics.
