Shanie Kalikow

Shanie joins Footsteps as an Economic Empowerment Program Associate through the Avodah Jewish Service Corps. Shanie is thrilled to be returning east, having spent the last four years in sunny Southern California at Pitzer College where they graduated in May 2022 with a degree in Religious Studies and Politics. At Pitzer, Shanie served as the Direct Action and Community Organizing Program Assistant at the Pitzer Community Engagement Center; helped found the Pitzer Community Fridge Collective; and co-led the independent student-led Jewish group on campus, Nishmat. Shanie brings these and other experiences in community building/organizing and resource distribution to their work at Footsteps, and is excited to learn new tools and tactics relevant to Footsteppers’ experiences from the amazing staff and members of the organization. Beyond thinking about and attempting to create communities where more of us feel free, Shanie loves to sing, paint, swim, and notice the usually unnoticed.
