Bess Rothenberg

Bess Rothenberg is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in strategy development, evaluation, and organizational learning, currently serving as the Senior Director for Strategy and Learning at the Ford Foundation since February 2016. As the inaugural director of this unit, Bess has built a team focused on enhancing grantmaking effectiveness and data governance. Prior roles include Deputy Director of Research and Evaluation at Wellspring Advisors, where Bess managed strategic planning for various programs, and an independent consultant specializing in strategic planning and evaluation. Earlier experience includes positions at the International Women's Health Coalition, American Jewish World Service, Columbia University, and Clemson University. Bess holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Virginia and a BA in Sociology from Boston University.
