Alanna Roff has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Alanna began their career as a Research Technician at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where they focused on studying transcriptional regulation and protein expression related to diabetes and retinal epithelial cells. Alanna then worked as a Research Technician at the University of Maryland, Baltimore before pursuing a graduate degree.
As a Graduate Student Researcher at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Alanna conducted research on post-transcriptional regulation of the human meprin alpha transcript in response to inflammation. Alanna discovered the role of RNA binding proteins in stabilizing or destabilizing the transcript, providing insight into the dysregulation of meprins associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
Following their graduate studies, Alanna worked as a Research Technologist and Human Research Technologist at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Their responsibilities included lab management, experimental design and analysis, manuscript preparation, and regulatory paperwork. Alanna contributed to research on post-transcriptional regulation in allergic and asthmatic inflammation, as well as the setup and maintenance of the lab.
Alanna then joined Johns Hopkins University as a Senior Research Specialist. In this role, they assisted in the preparation of samples for large-scale genotyping and sequencing studies of genetics and asthma in African American populations. Alanna gained experience in automated DNA extraction and sample management, collaborating with other labs and investigators as necessary.
Alanna later relocated to the University of Colorado Denver and joined the Barnes Lab as a Senior Professional Research Assistant. In June 2016, they transitioned to the new Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine (CCPM) Biobank. Here, their responsibilities included lab setup, lab automation, writing SOPs, and preparing documentation for CLIA certification. Alanna also platform-validated Sanger sequencing for clinical use and contributed to the UCHealth Hospital system's COVID-19 testing efforts during the pandemic.
Alanna's most recent position is as a Research Scientist at Foresight Diagnostics Inc., where they are currently employed.
Alanna Roff has an extensive educational background in the field of biology. Alanna obtained their Master's Degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from Penn State College of Medicine, where they studied from 2009 to 2011. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, where they attended from 2000 to 2002.
Before pursuing their bachelor's degree, Alanna Roff attended HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, from 1998 to 2000, where they studied life sciences. It should be noted that no degree was specified for this period in their education.
In addition to their formal education, Alanna Roff obtained a certification in "Python for Genomic Data Science" from Coursera in November 2018.
