Hyunsung John Kim

Hyunsung John Kim has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics. Hyunsung John started their career as a Technical Analyst I at the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) in 2007.

In 2008, they pursued their PhD at UC Santa Cruz, where they conducted independent research and collaborated with others. Hyunsung John'sdissertation focused on the application of high-throughput sequencing for clinical diagnostics and immunology.

Following their PhD, Kim joined Illumina as a Bioinformatics Intern in 2014. Hyunsung John developed custom algorithms and pipelines for novel biomolecular assays and created a job management web-app to process large-scale sample data. Hyunsung John also led the development of pipeline architecture and created reusable pipelines, including a custom multiplex primer design suite.

Kim then advanced to the role of Bioinformatics Scientist I at Illumina, where they continued to contribute to various bioinformatics pipelines and projects. Hyunsung John scoped requirements, created design plans, and managed the implementation of a high-throughput single-cell RNAseq pipeline. Hyunsung John successfully delivered the finished product on schedule.

In 2016, Kim joined GRAIL, Inc. as a Bioinformatics Scientist II. Hyunsung John worked on multiple projects, including being a part of a team that developed genomic analysis solutions for early cancer detection. Hyunsung John was later promoted to Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, taking on more responsibilities.

Currently, Kim holds the position of Senior Bioinformatics Engineer at Foresite Labs since 2019. Hyunsung John'srole involves utilizing their expertise in bioinformatics to contribute to the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies in the life sciences field.
