Mary Helen Black has a diverse work experience spanning various companies and roles. Mary Helen currently serves as the VP and Head of Human Genomics at Foresite Labs since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson from 2019 to 2022, where they held the position of Head of Population Analytics, Computational Sciences, Discovery Sciences. In this role, they led a team of over 20 scientists in analyzing large-scale genomic and clinical data to identify novel drug targets and assess patient stratification.

Prior to that, they held multiple roles at Kaiser Permanente from 2009 to 2016, including Research Scientist Biostatistician and Biostatistician III. At Kaiser, they conducted studies on complex diseases, provided consultation on study design and statistical methods, and contributed to grant proposals and manuscript preparation.

Mary Helen served as a Teaching Assistant for statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology courses from 2005 to 2009, as well as a Research Assistant conducting statistical analysis for various studies. Additionally, they worked as a Statistical Consultant for the Statistical Consultation and Research Center, providing consulting services and statistical analysis for diverse projects.
Early in their career, Mary worked as a Teacher and Mathematics Department Chair at Bishop Montgomery High School, where they taught various math subjects and biology.
