Andy Hicken's work experience begins in 2004, where they worked as a Public Relations Assistant for the American Diabetes Association. Andy then became a Fulbright-Hays Fellow for AMINEF in 2006 and conducted fieldwork for their Ph.D. dissertation in ethnomusicology. Following this, they worked as an Instructor at the University of Wisconsin from 2007 to 2008, where they designed and taught a course on Music Cultures of the World. In 2006, they joined Web Courseworks as an E-Learning Instructional Designer, where they designed and wrote web-based courses and learning materials. Andy then worked as an Instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010 and taught various courses on music. From 2010 to 2011, they worked as an Instructor at Northern Arizona University, focusing on Latin American music and world music. In 2011, they became a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh, leading the University gamelan ensemble and teaching music courses. In 2012, they joined AMINEF as a Fulbright Senior Scholar. Moving forward, from 2012 to 2020, they held various roles at Web Courseworks, including Director of Quality & Strategy and Vice President of Technology Solutions. Finally, in 2023, they became the VP of Technology Solutions at Forj after the merger with Web Courseworks. Andy'scurrent role involves community-driven learning and product strategy.
Andy Hicken has an extensive education history. Andy started in 1994 by completing a Bachelor's Degree in Music at Grinnell College, where they studied from 1994 to 1998. From there, they pursued further education and obtained a Master's Degree in Ethnomusicology from The University of Texas at Austin between 2001 and 2004. In 2004, Andy began their doctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Ethnomusicology by 2009. Most recently, they have returned to the University of Wisconsin system to further their education in a different field. Since 2018, they have been pursuing a Master's Degree in Data Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which they are expected to complete by 2023.
