Joseph Smyth

Human Factors Lead at FORSEVEN

Joseph Smyth has a diverse and extensive work experience. Joseph is currently working at FORSEVEN as a Human Factors Lead. Prior to that, they were an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Warwick. Before joining FORSEVEN, Joseph worked at Arrival as a Human Factors Lead, where they led the human factors team and focused on ensuring pleasurable and distraction-free driving through a data-led approach. Joseph also worked as a Human Factors Specialist at Arrival. Joseph also served as the Chair of the Automotive Sector Group at the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, where they organized events and publications to promote knowledge sharing in automotive human factors. Joseph was a Research Fellow at WMG, University of Warwick, and conducted research in the field of human factors. Joseph's earlier experience includes four years of work at Jaguar Land Rover, where they held various responsibilities related to human factors and ergonomics in smart, connected, and automated vehicles. Joseph was involved in research projects, served as a consultant, and worked as a tutor.

Joseph Smyth's education history includes a range of academic achievements and expertise in various fields. Joseph pursued an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in Automotive Engineering from the University of Warwick, which they completed from 2015 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's Degree in Design (critical practice) from Goldsmiths, University of London, during the academic year 2014-2015. Joseph also holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Ergonomics - Human Factors Design from Loughborough University, where they attended from 2011 to 2014.

In terms of their earlier education, Joseph attended Barton Peveril Sixth Form College from 2009 to 2011, where they studied a combination of Physics, Maths, Product Design, and Business Studies. Before that, they had completed an NVQ Level 3 in Automotive Mechanics from Fareham College (Paragon) in 2009-2010. Joseph's educational journey exhibits a strong foundation in engineering and design that they have built upon over the years.
