Nelson Mattos is a Brazilian-American business executive and advisor who has had a long and successful career in the technology industry. Nelson is currently an advisor at Fractal Labs and has previously served as the Chief Operating Officer of the KARIMU INTERNATIONAL HELP FOUNDATION, an independent consultant, and a board member for MIX and Grameen Foundation.
Nelson was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1965. Nelson moved to the United States in 1983 to attend college, earning their undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1987. Nelson went on to earn their MBA from Harvard Business School in 1991.
After graduation, Nelson began their career at IBM, where they spent 16 years in various leadership roles, including Vice President for Information and User Technologies. In 2008, they left IBM to join Google as Vice President for Product and Engineering for Europe and Emerging Markets. Nelson held this position for seven years before moving on to their current role at Fractal Labs.
Throughout their career, Nelson has been an active mentor and coach for professionals around the world. Nelson is a frequent speaker at conferences and lectures on topics related to technology and its impact on society. Nelson's work has been focused on reducing poverty in Africa and South East Asia through their volunteer work with the KARIMU INTERNATIONAL HELP FOUNDATION and other organizations.
Nelson Mattos has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Kaiserslautern and a Master in Computer Science from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
