Kathy Surace-Smith

Kathy Surace-Smith is the Vice Chair at Fred Hutch. Kathy has also worked as Principal at Lochleven Consulting PLLC, VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at SonoSite Inc., and International Counsel at Alcatel N.V.

Kathy has extensive experience in legal and business consulting. Kathy has represented a global health nonprofit in the acquisition of a nonprofit pharma company and acted as legal counsel for a genomics company.

At SonoSite, Kathy was responsible for the company’s legal affairs, including litigation, intellectual property, compliance, and regulatory matters. Kathy also served as the corporate secretary, managing the board of directors’ meeting process and corporate governance compliance.

At Alcatel N.V., Kathy was responsible for all legal aspects of Alcatel’s activities in North America, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financing, litigation, and intellectual property.

Kathy Surace-Smith holds an A.B. in Politics from Princeton University, where they graduated Magna Cum Laude. Kathy then attended Columbia Law School, where they earned their J.D. Surace-Smith also holds a degree in International Law and Economics from the Geneva Graduate Institute.
