Lead Horticulturist- Japanese Garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

Gregory Afman is a seasoned horticulturist with extensive experience in specialized gardening. Currently serving as the Lead Horticulturist for the Japanese Garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park since August 2013, Gregory has previously worked as a Gardener for a Tokyo Based Japanese Garden Company from January 2011 to August 2013. Additionally, Gregory completed a Bonsai apprenticeship at Aichi-en/Daiju-en Bonsai Nursery between February 2004 and August 2013 and participated in the Professional Gardener Program at Longwood Gardens from January 2008 to December 2010. Gregory holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the History of Art from the University of Michigan and has pursued further education at the University of Sussex.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

One of the world’s most significant botanic and sculpture experiences, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park serves more than 750,000 visitors annually. The 158-acre grounds feature Michigan’s largest tropical conservatory; one of the largest children’s gardens in the country; arid and Victorian gardens with bronze sculptures by Degas and Rodin; a carnivorous plant house; outdoor gardens; and a 1900-seat outdoor amphitheater, featuring an eclectic mix of world-renowned musicians every summer. The internationally acclaimed Sculpture Park features a permanent collection including works by Ai Weiwei, Kapoor, Rodin, Oldenburg, Moore, Bourgeois and Plensa, among others. Indoor galleries host changing sculpture exhibitions with recent exhibitions by Picasso, Degas, di Suvero, Borofsky, Calder and Dine.
