Matt James

Matt James is the President of James Strategies, a position held since May 2024. Matt serves as a Senior Fellow at Freedman Consulting, LLC since March 2017 and has been a Senior Counselor at GMMB from March 2018 to September 2024. Prior experiences include serving as a Visiting Scholar at The David and Lucile Packard Foundation focused on climate change communications and as a Founding Partner of Vrge, specializing in strategic communications. Matt co-founded and was President of Next Generation from January 2011 to December 2015. Previously, Matt held key positions such as Executive Vice President at The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation from 1991 to August 2010, Chief of Staff for Congressman Morris K. Udall from 1989 to 1991, and Communications Director for Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan from 1986 to 1989. Matt holds a B.A. in Communications, Theater, and English from Western Michigan University, completed in 1981.
