George Chang

George Chang has extensive experience in the legal and compliance field within the finance industry. George currently holds the position of Managing Director & General Counsel at Freestone Capital Management since 2022. Prior to this, they were the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at The Voleon Group from 2018 to 2022. From 2008 to 2018, they served as Senior Vice President, Legal at D.E. Shaw & Co., where they led the Product Development group and advised various other groups within the organization. George also held roles as Head of Legal & Chief Compliance Officer at GLG Inc. from 2006 to 2008, as well as at Rockbay Capital from 2005 to 2006. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Vice President & Assistant General Counsel at Goldman Sachs from 2000 to 2005 and as an Associate specializing in M&A and Investment Funds at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP from 1997 to 2000.

George Chang holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from New York University School of Law. George also completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree at Wesleyan University. In terms of certifications, George obtained the Registered In-House Counsel certification from the State Bar of California in February 2021. Additionally, they were admitted to the New York State Bar by the New York State Office of Court Administration in December 2002. Furthermore, George holds an inactive status as a member of the State Bar of Texas, as they were admitted in December 1997.
