Tomás Iturriaga is currently the COO at Fresnillo. Prior to that, they were the Chief Sustainability Officer at BAL Mining and Metals Division from May 2018 to November 2020. Before that, they were the Vice President of Operations and Country Manager, Mexico at Endeavour Silver Corp from January 2017 to May 2018.
Tomás has a long history of working in the mining industry, starting with their role at Endeavour Silver Corp. There, they were responsible for the operating matters and performance of the three underground mines of the company. Tomás also implemented mine site optimization and cost reduction programs, as well as strategic planning and budgeting. In addition, they provided guidance in a GM capacity to the functional areas in Mexico, such as finance, HR, legal, environmental, and CR. Tomás also supported the Business and Project Development group in an advisory capacity.
At Fresnillo, Tomás is responsible for sustainability policy, strategy and objectives setting for the nine opearting mines and the metal refining complex under Fresnillo PLC and Industries Peñoles ownership. Tomás has also implemented the Tailings Stewardship and Governance Program, as well as the Critical Risk Management safety program. In addition, they provide functional guidance to safety and health, environmental, and community relations areas.
Tomás Iturriaga received their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey. Tomás then went on to receive their Master of International Management (Global MBA) with a specialization in Latin America from Thunderbird School of Global Management. Finally, they completed a General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
